City Announces Sergio Aguero To Leave Club In Summer

Mar 29, 2021 3:21 PM

Manchester City has announced Sergio Aguero will leave the club in the summer.

Aguero is City's record goalscorer with 257 goals in 384 appearances.

Khaldoon Al Mubarak said: “Sergio’s contribution to Manchester City over the last 10 years cannot be overstated. His legend will be indelibly etched into the memories of everyone who loves the Club and maybe even in those who simply love football.

“This is not yet the moment for farewell words and speeches. There is still much to achieve in the remainder of the time we have with Sergio, and we look forward to his contributions to the challenges which lay ahead.

“In the meantime, it gives me great pleasure to announce that we will be commissioning an artist to create a statue of Sergio to live at the Etihad Stadium alongside the ones under construction for Vincent and David. And we look forward to the opportunity to bid Sergio a fitting farewell at the end of the season.”

Antonio Rüdiger Wants To Sign Extension With Chelsea

Mar 17, 2021 1:23 PM

Antonio Rüdiger has said he wants to sign a new contract at Chelsea despite admitting he was shocked to lose his place at the start of the season and considered offers from Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham.

Rüdiger's contract with Chelsea expires at the end of next season.

“I was obviously shocked,” Rüdiger said of being left out of Frank Lampard's XI. “Some things I saw coming. Not being in the squad at all was not something I saw coming. But I took it on the chin. There were two teams – but mainly one team I was considering. PSG and there was a call also with Mourinho but this is something that didn’t happen.

“I was a bit upset because I knew I would not be playing that often. But then I had talks with Lampard and all of sudden I was back on the bench and then I had a couple of games. I just worked my way back. I played the last games of his reign and now things are going well.

“I’m very happy about it, but to be honest I always felt well in the club. They treated me nice, especially the board. No one told me you should leave, neither did Frank Lampard. The loans didn’t happen. But nobody told me I should leave.”

Joan Laporta Elected New President Of Barcelona

Mar 7, 2021 7:58 PM

Joan Laporta has been elected the new president of Barcelona, returning to the post he previously held from 2003 to 2010.

Laporta was voted into power on Sunday ahead of rival candidates Victor Font and Toni Freixa.

Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba were among those to vote.

"I want to thank all the members for coming out to vote what has been the most important election in the club's history due to [the effects of] the coronavirus pandemic, which has changed our lives," Laporta said in a brief speech.

"I want to thank the members that have supported our campaign. This has been a celebration of democracy and of Barcelona. I also want to pay special thanks to Johan Cruyff, who's no longer with us. I am sure he's helped us.

"Barcelona is a huge family and we will overcome the difficulties together. We will achieve the objectives that we have set out."

Laporta said the fact that Messi voted on Sunday was "significant."

"Today, 20 years ago, Messi made his debut for Barca's youth teams," he added. "To see the best player in the world, the player in the history of football, coming to vote, is a sign of what we have said throughout the campaign: that Messi loves Barca.

"The best player in the world loves Barca and that is very significant. We're going to encourage him to continue with the club, which is what we all want."
